It has been reported that the award-winning actor had to be rescued after he and a friend lost their way on a kayaking adventure.

He might well play a burly warrior in the film Gladiator but that didn’t stop Russell Crowe from getting lost on a kayaking adventure at the weekend.

The Oscar winner apparently had to be rescued by the Coast Guard after he and his personal trainer Chris Feather lost their bearings out at sea.

According to reports today the pair set out from Cold Spring Harbour and ended up ten miles away at Huntington Bay. While we’re not sure exactly how bad that is, it does sound pretty far away!

But thankfully they got back to dry land safely after Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Swieciki gave them a ride to the Harbour.

Not even his shield could have helped him out on the water at the weekend.

Speaking to the New York Daily News about what happened, Swieciki said: ‘He just needed a little bit of help, he just got a little lost.

‘It wasn’t really a rescue, really, more of just giving someone a lift.’

Crowe also played down the incident on Twitter. He wrote: ‘not lost, we knew exactly where we were… we ran out of day.’

That’s what they all say Russell! Perhaps you ought to leave the real adventure stuff to Bear Grylls, eh?
