A teen who previously claimed he visited heaven following a life-threatening accident, has admitted he lied ‘to get attention’ five years on.

Alex Malarkey made the claims following a car crash, which he later documented in a best-selling memoir ‘The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven’.

Malarkey, who was left quadriplegic following a serious car crash, wrote in his memoirs how he had visions of angels and met Jesus following the accident.

Publishers Tyndale House, who released the memoir, confirmed today they would be withdrawing the publication from shelves after Malarkey admitted in an open letter that he had been lying in a bid for attention.

In the open admission, Malarkey wrote:

“I did not die. I did not go to Heaven.

“When I made the claims that I did, I had never read the Bible. People have profited from lies, and continue to. They should read the Bible, which is enough.”

The book, co-written by Malarkey’s father Kevin and first published in 2010, described the incident and Malarkey’s life following the car crash which left him in a coma.

It was republished in 2014, with the strap line “A True Story”.
