An Irish man has reportedly been refused bail in Parramatta Court, Australia following an incident which took place in the early hours of Saturday morning (local time).

According to the BBC, 33-year-old Barry Lyttle, believed to be from Co. Antrim, has been refused bail at the Australian court.

He was charged with causing grievous bodily harm after it was alleged that he had attacked his younger brother.

His brother Patrick is reportedly critically injured in hospital.

“The pain the father is suffering now cannot be explained in words as a result of a one-punch attack from one brother to another,” said New South Wales Police Inspector Michael Fitzgerald.

“This was caused by one punch and we now have a father who is facing the reality of one son facing serious criminal charges and another son fighting for his life.”

It has been reported that Patrick had been travelling around Australia for a number of months and that his father and brother came out to visit him in recent days.

According to further reports, Barry Lyttle did not apply for bail on the day.
