Ok, admittedly we weren’t the age group growing up watching The Teletubbies, but we all remember the laughing baby in the sun.
We probably all have a brother or sister that drove us demented with endless renditions of the theme song finishing up with the child’s laugh.
Now the much more grown up face has stepped forward, and revealed herself as Jess Smith – a first year dance education student at Canterbury Christ Church University.
The student from Chatham, Kent, revealed she may have been one of the world’s most recognised baby faces, but only her family knew it was her.
Confirming the news on her Facebook page, and posting the letter from the producers to her parents when she was hired for the job, the now-19 year old wrote:
‘Everyone says they can see the likeness between my face now and me as a baby. I still have a baby face. I haven’t changed much either. I am still giggly.’
So what did she earn as the famous face of the sun?
Jess took home just £250 for filming and given a box of toys. She says she is still more than happy with the payment, despite the global success of the show:
“I am sure I loved the box of toys. No one knew how big the show was going to be so we didn’t get offered royalties.”
An American actress Jessica Smith previously claimed to have been the face behind the baby, but this was disproven by the fact the now 27-year old would have been 10 at the time of filming.
Jessica Smith, who shot to fame on teen drama Laguna Beach, has not commented on the news.
