Of course it was going to start with a bang but nobody had any idea just how explosive last night’s X Factor was going to be.
Not only did you have feisty Zoe Alexander who went off at the judges before causing a mess backstage and incredible song-writing Ella Henderson who ticked all the judges’ boxes when she sang her own song about her grandfather.

Zoe Alexander was all smiles before she was told no after singing two songs.

Sixteen year old Ella Henderson sang a very emotional song and looked tearful.
But you also had quite a few surprises in there as well including Asda employee Jahmene Douglas who sang a stunning rendition of ‘At Last’ by Etta James and self-proclaimed nerd Curtis Golden who performed his own acoustic version of Christina Aguilera’s ‘Candyman.’

Guitar-playing Curtis Golden surprised almost everyone with his voice.
And it wasn’t just the contestants making an impression, guest judge Mel B showed just how scary she could be criticising singer after singer. Not even 82 year old Lou Dilke, who sang Adele’s ‘My Love’ escaped her wrath.

Mel B was in fine form criticising contestants left, right and centre.
All in all it was an incredible first episode, one which will most certainly be difficult to follow next week. Until then, we want to know who you thought was the standout star of last night’s show.
