Galway has what every woman wants at this time of year – a bit of gambling, a LOT of riding and some amazing craic. But the Galway Races are a serious deal for some women, especially if they’re hoping to win the coveted title of Best Dressed Lady.
The Irish Daily Star reports that female punters are going to some extreme measures in order to make sure they can bear their high heels for the day – they’re getting loub jobs.
No, a loub job doesn’t involve anything naughty, but they do sound pretty damn painful if you ask us. The Hospital Group in Galway has said that they have noticed a “marked increase” in enquires about loub jobs from women who are in the process of getting ready for Ladies’ Day at the races.
Simply put, a loub job involves getting dermal filler injections in the soles of your feet so you can walk in high heels comfortably, without getting that awful ball-of-foot pain that usually comes with rocking a pair of stilettos. (And yes, the procedure is named after Christian Louboutin’s ridiculously high shoes).

Worth the pain of a loub job?
According to The Hospital Group, enquires about loub jobs have risen 48 per cent in the last month alone. Disturbing, right?
Anyway, a spokesman for the Group also stated that other popular pre-race treatments include women asking for facial fillers (to hide fine lines and wrinkles, of course) and hyperhydrosis – a treatment designed to minimise underarm sweating. Eh…lovely…
But it’s not just the girls who have been looking into plastic surgery – 20 per cent of all Botox customers are actually male. Surprised women? We have to admit, we did raise a few eyebrows in the office (no pun intended!).
Over 150,000 people are expected to flock to the Galway Races, which kicks off today at 4pm. Will you be having a flutter on the horses this week? And, more importantly, would you ever consider having a loub job?
