Here’s to Spar Guy.
We’ve come a long way in addressing homophobia in Ireland but unfortunately there’s still some distance to go, and being called a “faggot” while simply standing in line at the local shop is a reality of life for too many of our friends and family members.
It’s a small but very important step, then, when such acts are publicly called out. Kudos this morning to #SparGuy, the shop worker in the Baggot St. branch of the chain, hailed today as an everyday hero after standing up for one customer.
The man, known only as Colm, shared the whole story on his personal Facebook page. It was snapped and shared by his friends before attracting the attention of Panti Bliss, whose repost has since attracted over 22,000 ‘likes’.
Nice one, Spar Guy.
Note: Post contains some strong language.
