X Factor contestant Jay James has been accused of bullying his fellow contestants behind-the-scenes but he says it’s all “friendly banter”.
A source told the Daily Mirror that some of Jay’s fellow contestants are “intimidated” by him.
“Jay can be very intense and quite outspoken. It has come as a shock to the less confident singers. He has said things to people while they are practising which they have found hurtful.
“He has even made comments about people’s clothing and their appearance” said the show insider.
However, Jay has responded to the criticism saying that his comments are meant as “friendly banter and direction.”
“I respect that people need to make their own decisions in this environment. But from a friend perspective, I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t think so much of the people,” he said.
“If they’re wearing green jeans with an orange top I’d just be like, ‘Let’s have a word, maybe you shouldn’t’.”
The X Factor results air tonight on ITV and TV3 at 8pm with performances from Olly Murs and Nicole Scherzinger.
