The State has been accused of weaseling out of their commitment to Thalidomide survivors as it failed to properly compensate those who face hardships as a result of the drug.

According to The Irish Times, The Thalidomide Association announced that twenty-five members were lodging applications with the Injuries Board and they expect their actions to go before the courts in the near future.

The Thalidomide drug was taken by pregnant women in the 1950’s to combat the effects of morning sickness but was proven to cause severe deformities including missing or shortened limbs.

The Department of Health has released a statement, which said that it respected the rights of the survivors of Thalidomide to pursue their concerns either by the courts or by any other needs.
