5, 6, 7, 8!
Steps are back, and they are playing the Marquee in Cork tonight. It’s the pop group’s second Irish gig this year following a date in Dublin’s 02 in April. Just one in a long line of groups we loved as kids who have decided to have a second shot at the fame game, but for the fans – is it still as sweet the second time around? We’d love to hear what you think… here are the office opinions:
Michelle: I went to the Steps gig in April and loved every minute of it. The songs are incredibly cheesy, and the dance routines look a bit silly when they’re being performed on stage by people closer to forty than they are to twenty, but that didn’t take from the sheer fun of it. I’m all for the terrible music I loved in my tweens making a comeback, and going to the gigs takes me back about fifteen years – happy days!
Amy: When I was younger I could never really afford to go see the artists I loved, so now it’s brilliant that you can go to gigs that are practically free. Everyone still remembers all the words, and all the dances, and it really takes you back to your childhood.
Patricia: I’m not a fan. I’d much rather see someone who is popular at the moment than someone who had hits ten years ago, and often the ticket prices for bands who reform are astronomical. They’re never going to be as good as they were in their heyday anyway, so why spoil the memories?
Rebecca: It evokes good memories and sometimes you end up liking the bands better the second time around – I never liked Take That the first time out and now I love them. (*Note* – Rebecca is actually wearing a Take That t-shirt today, so we were kind of expecting that response…)
