Homemade Spa Treatments, That’s Spa-ntastic

There's no need to make an appointment or even leave the house to get your next facial or pedicure. Just use these homemade spa treatments. Enjoy!

Light a few candles, put on some relaxing music and jump into your cosy dressing gown. That’s right; you’re treating yourself to a homemade spa session.

Here at Her.ie we’ve all had to cut back on our spa treatments in recent times but we’ve also all created mini spas in our own homes using some rather unusual ingredients.

And we are bringing you some of our favourite homemade treatments which you can enjoy pretty much free of charge and without even leaving the house. What’s not to love?

  1. Treat yourself to a pedicure. Start off by soaking your feet in a bucket of warm milk for five to ten minutes. This will help to soften and exfoliate your gorgeous tootsies. Then dry your feet off and get painting those nails. Rather than using those awful toe-separating things that make you frown in pain and walk as if you’re stepping on glass, wrap toilet roll between your toes. Don’t forget your base and top coats to protect both your nails and polish.
  2. If you fancy giving yourself a matching manicure, opt for something a little different. Mix brown sugar with a touch of olive oil until it forms a paste. Smear this over your hands and rub in gently. Rinse it off after a few minutes and your hands will feel so smooth you won’t want to do anything for the rest of the day. Except of course put your feet up in front of the television which we think sounds like a great idea!
  3. Strangely enough, mayonnaise can be used to form the base of an all-over moisturizing and soothing body cream. Mix the mayonnaise with a quarter of the amount in baby oil. Mix well and apply it to your skin. Leave it on for 20-30 minutes and then hop into the shower for a quick rinse. Your skin will be left feeling hydrated and rejuvenated. And there we were thinking mayonnaise was just for sandwiches.
  4. For your facial make two cups of green tea. Leave one until it is completely cool and drink the other one while you wait with the latest addition of your favourite magazine. When the tea has gone cool, mix in two teaspoons of sugar and one teaspoon of lemon juice or honey. You can use the mixture as a face wash or you can rub it on your face and leave it for ten minutes before rinsing.
  5. With the rest of your body taken care of, it’s time to turn your attention to your luscious locks. Whisk two or three whole eggs and apply it to clean but damp hair. Leave this in for around 20 minutes before rinsing it out with cold water to prevent the egg from cooking in your hair. Been there, done that, cried a lot! You also need to wash your hair with shampoo afterwards. Whole eggs suit normal hair while hydrating egg yolks work for dry hair and egg whites remove unwanted oils from oily hair.

So ladies, don’t let that aul recession mark the end of your spa days. You’d be surprised at what products you can use from your very own cupboards for treatments. As always be cautious of allergies and what products you can use where on your body. Enjoy!
