The boot-wearing and puddle-splashing winter has left our feet a little worse for wear. It is easy to forget about our toes when they are hidden away for the chilly months behind a shield of opaque tights, fleece socks and our must have winter boots!
But now that it’s July it really would be a sin to flash these bad boys in public. Our cracked heels and hard skin are not the season accessories we dreamed about and trying to shove these hooves into our shiny new wedges is a certain crime against summer. Here are our tips to perk up your piggies and get your feet sandal-ready for an amazing summer 2012.
Firstly, we want to get rid of all that dry and dead skin on our heels. It is important to soak your feet in warm soapy water for at least an hour before getting to work to allow the skin to soften and to make the process a little bit easier.
Over a clean towel, begin softly removing the skin with a foot file or pumice. I love EcoTools Foot Brush and Pumice, available at Boots, which is great at getting rid of all of that pesky skin and polishing up your heels. The pumice is easy to use and much preferred to a skin-grater type product such as JML’s Ped-Egg, which can easily grate away healthy skin.
After you’ve removed most of your hard skin with the pumice, exfoliate your feet in order to achieve totally smooth heels. We love Soap and Glory Flake-Away, available at Boots, which smells amazing and works well at removing your remaining dead skin. (€8.60/300mls)
It is important to moisturize your feet regularly to achieve flawless feet all year around. Vaseline Coco Butter Body Lotion (€3.39/200mls) is the perfect way to inject moisture into dry skin anywhere on your body. Used on your feet it works wonders.
