The two-year-old boy who was found dead in Shankill, Co Dublin, yesterday afternoon was allegedly stabbed.
Hassan Khan was found in an apartment in the Ridge Hall complex on the Shanganagh Road, in which he lived with his mother Hazel Waters, by gardaí after 2.00pm on Thursday.
A woman in her 40s, who is known to Hassan and his father Mohamed Saleem Khan, was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
The boy was pronounced dead by a doctor but gardaí are said to be working on the theory that he had been dead for several hours before his body was discovered.
According to the Irish Times, the body is undergoing a post mortem which is expected to find that Hassan was stabbed in his upper body. It is likely that a murder investigation will be launched following the results.
