Six-year-old Orla Curran from Downpatrick, Co. Down is a ball of excitement this week as she prepares to walk onto the pitch at Croke Park, hand-in-hand with her hero.

The small GAA fan will walk with Down joint captain Kyla Trainor onto the pitch this Sunday, ahead of the county’s Intermediate All-Ireland football championship clash with Fermanagh.

The little player could barely contain her excitement when she spoke to Jerome Quinn about walking out with “K-Dog” as she fondly calls her county hero.

“She is the best footballer in the world,” said Orla. “And my best, best friend.”

“Kyla is her hero, there’s no two ways about it,” said Orla’s mother, Emma. “She aspires to be Kayla and tells everybody she’s going to play for Down ladies too.”

Aw…!

The TG4 All-Ireland ladies finals will kick off this Sunday, September 28th, starting with the junior final at 1.45am.
