A couple who messaged for a month using only emojis have said that it actually improved their relationship.
Alex Goldmark and Liza Stark, a couple from New York, sent each other only symbols and pictures in an experiment for New Tech City.
Before the experiment, Alex, a producer at New Tech City, and Liza downloaded all the emoji apps they could find. The one they used the most was WeChat, a popular messaging service.

However, the couple said that it was difficult to make plans using emojis. In the image above, Liza told Alex that she was meeting a friend for drinks. He was going to come along but then Liza found out that the friend had just found out about a death in the family.
She tried to tell him not to meet them through emoji language but he thought her message said she was sad he couldn’t come. While the couple got their wires crossed with this particular message, the experiment wasn’t all bad.
Overall, the couple felt it had a positive impact on their relationship with Liza saying “someone telling you that they love you is a great and beautiful and wonderful thing, but getting those stickers, getting those emojis was a sort of different experience.”
The picture below shows the exchange between them when they returned to using words and they actually missed using emojis. “We kept using emojis because we liked it. Words were not well received” said Alex.
