A human leg was found by a member of staff sorting through waste material at a Dublin recycling plant last night.

The grim discovery was made by an employee at Thorntons Recycling Centre, Ballyfermot at approximately 11:40 p.m.

Operations were suspended immediately and all equipment was shut down. A doctor was called to the scene and confirmed the limb was human.

Gardaí have launched an investigation and the State Pathologist’s office has been contacted. The area remains sealed off and a full search of the premises will take place today.
