The Insidious movies, directed by the brilliant James Wan, he of Conjuring fame, have been a brilliant addition to the horror genre. Using old school horror techniques, the story is simple and yet has managed to work across two films so far.
However, director James Wan has now moved away from the project and handed over the reins to his writer and friend Leigh Whannell (yes, that guy from Saw).
Although we were pretty sure there would be a third film in the franchise, there was no confirmation in which direction this would be moving. Whannell has now confirmed that the third film will be a prequel.
The plot details have been released, according to Slash Film, and this third film certainly looks as interesting as the last two.
“Insidious: Chapter 3 stars Dermot Mulroney (of August: Osage County) and Stefanie Scott (of Blumhouse’s upcoming Jem and the Holograms) alongside Lin Shaye, Angus Sampson, and Mr. Whannell, with the latter trio reprising their roles from the first two movies in the franchise.
In Insidious: Chapter 3, a twisted new tale of terror begins for a teenage girl and her family, predating the haunting of the Lambert family in the earlier movies and revealing more mysteries of the otherworldly realm The Further.”
Now, we don’t know about you but in the last two films, The Further wasn’t really working for us so we will have to see where Whannell goes with this.
The film is due for release here in May, 2015.
