A Colorado woman who lost over 100 pounds in one year has spoken out about her ‘marathon’ approach to weight loss.
Nicole Durham decided one day that she was fed up of being overweight but rather than changing everything at once, she approached it like a marathon.
Back in 2010, she was 25 years old and weighed 258 pounds. She told CNN: “So many times I would tell myself, ‘Today you’re going to start making changes,’ but I never did. Today always turned into tomorrow”.
In 2012, today finally arrived and Nicole started to make small changes including walking and dancing to Just Dance on her Nintendo Wii.
At the beginning of 2013, she started doing more exercise including biking and strength-training, and changed her diet. As well as cutting down on desserts, she opted for wholegrain foods and less alcohol.
One year after Nicole started, she had hit her goal weight of 143 pounds and today she weighs approximately 135 pounds.
She explained: “I work hard, eat pretty conscientiously during the week and have fun on the weekends, now that I’m working on maintaining… I definitely don’t feel like I’m missing out, because I work out to stay active and to balance it all”.
