Forget to take your pill? Set the timer on your phone but always switch it to snooze and lose your train of thought? Well maybe it’s time to invest in remote-controlled contraception?
You just have to wait until 2018.
It was only a matter of time before technology took on birth control, and now Massachusetts company MicroCHIPS (with support from Bill Gates) has developed a tiny contraceptive chip to be placed under a woman’s skin.
The tiny chip, measuring 20mm x 20mm x 70mm, will release a small dose of the hormone levonorgestrel, and will last for up to 16 years.
So what if you decide you want to get pregnant in that time?
Well just turn off your dose using a wireless remote control.
As with any computer, the real risk comes if someone tries to hack into your contraceptive. Better not anger any ex-boyfriends, or settle down too early with a broody partner.
The creators are currently working on updating the chip to avoid these possible interruptions to your personal birth control plan. It’s thought that the same technology could be rolled out to administer other drugs if deemed successful.
