A crucifix honouring the late Pope John Paul II has fallen and crushed a 21-year-old man to death in northern Italy.
According to BBC News, Italian media have reported that Marco Gusmini was killed instantly and one other male was taken to hospital.
A group of children were said to have been in the vicinity at the time of the incident.
John Paul II and his predecessor Pope John XXIII, are due to be declared saints at the Vatican on Sunday. The 100ft sculpture was erected at a ceremony ahead of the canonisation.
Sculptor, Enrico Job, created the curved cross for the area of Brescia where John Paul II visited in 1998.
