Coronations Street’s Jimmi Harkishin has said he is taking a break from the soap due to exhaustion.

According to The Mirror, the actor, who plays shopkeeper Dev Alahan, is said to be tired of the relentless filming schedule and plans to travel with his daughter before she starts university.

Jimmi has been a stalwart on the cobbles since he joined in 1999 apart from a drug scandal in 2004 when it was alleged that the star had taken cocaine.

Shopkeeper and businessman Dev has been part of some important storylines recently, including a failed romance with barmaid Stella Price, played by Michelle Collins.

His character was left a single parent to twins last year when his wife Sunita was murdered in an arson attack at the Rovers Return pub.

A spokesperson for the show confirmed the news this week saying: “It was agreed way in advance, and other actors who have been on the show a long time have done the same thing from time to time and taken a sabbatical”.
