They say true love never dies – now a Manchester pensioner is on a search for his long lost sweetheart after 55 years of silence.

Herbert Riley, 83, has printed out 10,000 leaflets in his search for a missing love he wants to rekindle with before it is too late. He also wants to leave his entire estate to his ex-girlfriend in his will, and is looking for help in tracking her down.

Herbert met Reeni when she was just 20-years-old and he was 24, at a dance hall in Stockport around 1955. They dated for four years, but Herbert was left devastated when Reeni married another man after only six weeks of knowing him.

He is now searching for Reeni, telling Manchester Evening News:

“We saw each other six times a week for four years. I have two brothers who don’t need my money. I want to leave her all my money.”

Herbert last saw Reeni when she was working in a local bakery thirty years ago, but regrets not taking his chance then. Despite not being able to remember her surname, he told media that she ‘always held a special place in his heart’.

It’s like a real life Notebook. We just hope he finds his Ali in time.
