Beating Google Glasses in the Fashion Stakes: Cuff Brand Launch GPS Jewellery

Who said style can't be practical?

Concerned about staying safe while walking at night, living alone or coming home from an evening on the tiles?

Proof that technology is catching up with us in every way is the launch of Cuff.

Cuff is a new line of GPS-enabled jewellery that serves as safety devices to help women feel safe while out and about – all whilst looking fashionable at the same time. Far from a panic button alarm hanging from the white chord around your neck, the collection boasts a range of jewellery pieces that can be worn for safety without sacrificing style.

The current collections includes a DVB silicone sports bracelet, the Carin shredded leather bracelet and the Lisa pendant. The CuffLink chip, a waterproof Bluetooth device, is interchangeable between pieces and allows the wearer to create a circle of friends who are notified of your location at the touch of a button. If your contact is wearing a cuff piece, it will start to vibrate to alert them of your request – otherwise they’ll receive a text to their phone.

In an interview with the New York Times, Deepa Sood said the company is emphasizing personal security as one of the main uses of the devices. Speaking about the need to make the technology wearable for women to use, Sood said:

“There’s this aesthetic vision that technology doesn’t have to scream technology. That was super appealing to me.”

The pieces are available for pre-order from the website here.
