10 Things… You Miss From Your College Days

Good times.

Rebecca McKnight

Before you head off to college or university, you’re told to make the most of your time because real life and all its joys kick in as soon as you graduate.

While we might not have taken heed of it at the time, we know it’s true now. Here’s what we miss from those glory days…

1. Lie-ins in the morning
On the days that there were no (important) morning classes.

2. Naps in the afternoon
On the days there were morning classes.

3. Heading out every night
Back at college, early nights weren’t heard of (probably because you had a lie-in and an afternoon nap) and you wouldn’t have thought twice about going out three nights on the trot.

4. Watching The Jeremy Kyle Show at 3.00am
Whether you were pulling an all-nighter for an assignment or were just having the bants in halls, Jezza was always there to keep you company.

5. Daytime TV
Some people say it’s sad. We say give us four vowels and five consonants please Carol! (This was back when Vorderman was still the queen of Countdown.)

6. Repeats
If at first you don’t succeed, ask your lecturer to organise a repeat for next semester and work harder. Such luxuries do not exist post-college.

7. Going to the gym/ shops when it’s quiet
Bliss.

8. Student discount
Moral of the story: buy EVERYTHING you could ever need for the rest of your life while at university.

9. Casual clothing
Going to class in your tracksuit bottoms and heading to the pub in a hoodie and jeans, these were a few of our favourite things.

10. Summer holidays
From three months to two weeks – that’s just cruel.
