The face of the anti-smoking campaign, Gerry Collins, has passed away aged 57.
The former footballer from Greystones, Co. Wicklow died yesterday morning surrounded by his family.
According to the Irish Times, Mr. Collins overcame throat cancer in 2008 but was diagnosed with lung cancer last year.
Mr. Collins featured in a number of emotional adverts that were released by the HSE for their Quit Campaign which were broadcast on the TV, radio and as online advertisements.
Mr Collins played football for Kilmacud Crokes GAA Club and the Dublin senior team.
