James Joyce is arguably the most famous literary in Irish history. A novelist and poet, the Dubliner is best known for his work, Ulysses.
Years after his death, letters were discovered in the sleeve of a book. These were no ordinary letters, they were erotic love letters the writer had penned to his wife Nora Barnacle.
Thanks to Martin Starr and the crew from ‘Funny or Die’, the infamous writings have been brought to life just in time for Valentine’s Day
The video begins with some lead-in text: “In the early 1900s, famed Irish author, James Joyce, wrote dozens of love letter to his wife Nora. They were discovered many years later tucked into the sleeve of a long-forgotten book.”
Starr then continues to recite the passionate letters addressed to the the love of Joyce’s life.
“Goodbye my Darling, whom I am trying to deprave, and degrade. How on God’s Earth can you possibly love a thing like me?”
