There’s a lot to be said for clever advertising, but a whole lot more to be said for advertising that leaves us in a cold sweat wanting to run for cover underneath our duvets…
We decided to take a look back at some of the creepiest television adverts that left the majority of us on the edge of our seats, and crying into our cushions.
From Krinkles the clown, a 1960s mascot for children’s rice cereal, to a very 21st century means of advertisement for a thriller movie that uses social networking platform Chatroulette as its source to scare. Here are ten adverts that promise to leave you feeling a little uneasy.
WARNING: This post is not for the faint-hearted and may leave you shouting at your screen…
Why? WHY?! Make it stop. *Reaches for cushion*
1. Levis Jeans 501
We’ll never wear jeans the same again.
2. Japanese Tyre Advertisement
We. Want. New. Tyres. Now…
3. The Last Exorcism
It is at times like these that we thank our lucky stars that we do not have a chatroulette account.
4. Phones 4U

Another reason never to go into a forest ever again…

Or a multi-storey car park. Late at night. Alone.
5. Rice Krinkles
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2vBJt1iG60
Dear Krinkles, thank you for ruining childhood for everyone in the 60s… we’ll also never eat cereal again.
6. Cravendale… What a bunch of evil cows.
Forget about those bones needing calcium, we’ll be sticking to good ol’ plain water straight from the tap from now on. Cows simply cannot be trusted.
7. Playstation 3
Why? Why a baby?! WHY?!
8. Ronald Mc Donald’s debut
Now we know where the irrational fear of clowns developed, thank you Ronald, thank you a lot.
9. Rejuvenique face mask
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ypdzgyrY_w
Because a Mike Myers-esque electrical facial mask is EXACTLY what everyone wants and needs. Also, was there really any need for the Joe Cocker background music?! *Shivers*
10. Kinder Surprise
We thought that was you Humpty Dumpty…

We vouch never to ask for a surprise of any kind, ever again.
