Selena Gomez has spoken about her on going battle with lupus.
The singer has revealed that she has undergone chemotherapy to fight the autoimmune disease.
Gomez sought treatment for the disease in 2013, and was forced to cancel a string of Asian tours. Reports circulated that she was battling substance abuse.
Speaking to Billboard magazine, the 23-year-old was scathing about the gossip websites who suggested she was addicted to drugs.
“I wanted so badly to say: ‘You guys have no idea. I’m in chemotherapy. You’re assholes’.”
“I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
Gomez continued that she felt the coverage of her relationship with Biebs in the press was “vile”.
“I’ve been working since I was seven. I’ve been a Unicef ambassador since I was 17. It’s so disappointing that I’ve become a tabloid story,” she said.
Lupus causes the human body to attack healthy tissue as it is unable to distinguish the source of virus. It can cause inflammation, swelling of joints, extreme fatigue, headaches, chest pain and hair loss and can range form mild to chronic and life-threatening.
The news comes ahead of the release of her new album Revival. If this little ditty is anything to go by, it’s gonna be a good one.
