A 95-year old pensioner picked up the phone to his local BBC radio station when he found himself too lonely to sit home alone this week, resulting in a heartbreaking phonecall.
Bill from Southampton got married to his wife last year. Unfortunately after a fall in their home, she had to go into a nursing home and Bill has been missing her ever since.
Explaining their close bond, Bill said:
“We knew each other for 30 odd years and she needed a carer and I took over the role of carer. Then it became so involved we decided we’d get married.
“She fell over and hurt herself and went into hospital and she had to go into a nursing home, and I go down and I visit her every day. You’ve got no idea how sorry I am.”

Bill phoned BBC Radio Solent when he was upset and lonely this week, and after host Alex Dyke spoke to him, the team decided to invite him into the station for a cup of coffee.
When Bill came into the show, Dyke greeted him with a hug. Speaking to Buzzfeed, broadcast assistant Chris Hitchings said:
“He called up to say he was lonely and he missed [his wife]. I don’t think he had anyone else to talk to.
“He’s such a nice guy and was lovely.”
